Error message: There is a problem with your import file! Your CSV file does not match the required format.

Sage Accounting requires a very specific layout and formatting for bank statement imports.

This error indicates that your CSV file's structure doesn't match the exact format Sage Accounting expects. Even a small deviation, such as renamed headers, missing data, or added columns, can trigger this error.

📎NOTE: Below is the required CSV file format for Sage Accounting (South Africa)

Excel spreadsheet. Column A with Date header. Column B with Description header. Column C with Amount header.

Checks to make

To resolve this error, make the following checks:

Recheck column order

Ensure columns appear in the correct order as per Sage’s template.

Review formatting

  • Dates must match the required format

  • Amounts must be numbers only

Keep header names unchanged

Don't modify, remove, or add to them.

Delete unnecessary data

  • Remove blank rows at the bottom.
