HMRC holds quarterly update dates for each business. When you submit an MTD Income Tax quarterly update, you may see the following error.
We're not able to send your update right now
This is due to a known HMRC issue.
Note that late submission penalties will not apply this tax year
Error code: 422-117-43
HMRC has incorrectly configured some taxpayer records or obligation data. This can cause submission failures, including obligation mismatch and period type errors.
This issue affects all software providers and doesn't result from your AccountsPrep data or settings.
⚠️CAUTION: Don't change anything in your AccountsPrep setup. Another change can cause more submission problems.
We send affected business details to HMRC so they can correct their records. HMRC usually takes at least one week to complete this process.
Your figures and client records remain correct in AccountsPrep.
Do I need to do anything?
You don't need to make any changes or contact HMRC.
You can:
Wait seven days, then submit again
Continue to use AccountsPrep while HMRC updates its records
AccountsPrep refreshes HMRC data before each submission attempt. If HMRC corrects the record, the submission succeeds.
📎NOTE: You can contact HMRC if you want to. Only HMRC can confirm whether they've completed a data correction or can correct it sooner.
When will HMRC fix the issue?
HMRC has committed to a permanent fix by 21 September 2026.
Late quarterly updates
HMRC won't apply penalty points for late quarterly updates during the 2026 to 2027 tax year.
📎NOTE: HMRC can still apply penalties for late tax returns and late tax payments.
