Activate MTD after you set up your AccountsPrep subscription. You need to enable income tax settings before you can access tax reports and submissions.
📌TIP: You can find more resources on Making Tax Digital from Sage's MTD for accountants hub.
Before you start
The MTD feature is available to UK customers only
You need to activate AccountsPrep through Sage Client Management
The feature isn't available when you add AccountsPrep as a standalone add-on
Enable MTD
Go to Settings, then select Income Tax.
Review Eligibility, then select Enable Income Tax.
Select Enable Income Tax to confirm.
📎NOTE: If the Income Tax option is not visible in Settings, check that you signed up to AccountsPrep through Sage for Accountants — not as a standalone add-on. The Income Tax option does not appear for standalone AccountsPrep users.
Enable Income Tax Reporting
After enabling MTD in Settings, you also need to enable Income Tax Reporting in a separate step. Without this, the Income Tax Summary will not populate with figures even if MTD is enabled and income tax categories are assigned.
Go to Accounting, then select Cash Sales.
Select Enable Income Tax Reporting.
Confirm to activate. Existing transactions and account category mappings are retained — this step starts the synchronisation process.
Review income tax settings
Income Tax categories link to your Chart of Accounts
A message appears if categories are missing
Default settings appear in Record and Transactions settings
Go to the Income Tax Summary to review figures
Use the Income Tax Summary to submit updates and the final declaration
